It was a journey full of contrasts—where ultra-modern experiences meet authentic cultural moments, from spice-filled souks to fiery sunsets over the dunes. 10 things to do in UAE and QATAR

1. EXPERIENCE THE CONTRAST OF OLD AND NEW IN DOHA
There’s something fascinating about Doha that you don’t fully understand until you see it with your own eyes. One moment, you’re surrounded by tradition—soft colors, quiet streets, and the gentle rhythm of everyday life—and the next, the skyline rises in the distance like something out of the future. It’s a city of contrasts, where past and present exist side by side in the most unexpected way. One of the places where this contrast feels the most striking is the charming Mina District. Walking through its streets feels almost like stepping into a different world: pastel-colored buildings, small cafés overlooking the water, and a peaceful, almost Mediterranean atmosphere that invites you to slow down. I have really loved every moment we spent there, and we were also lucky because we happened to be there at sunset, so the atmosphere was even more special. And then, just beyond the harbor, everything changes. In the distance, Doha’s ultra-modern skyline rises sharply against the horizon—sleek glass towers, bold architecture, and a sense of constant movement. The contrast is almost surreal. Standing there, with the traditional port behind you and the futuristic city ahead, you realize that this is exactly what makes Doha so unique. It’s not just a place you visit—it’s a place you experience, where two completely different worlds coexist in perfect balance.

2. GET LOST IN THE SCENTS AND SOUNDS OF A TRADITIONAL SOUQ
Stepping into a traditional souq in Doha feels like entering a completely different world, where every corner tells a story and every sense is awakened at once. The air is filled with the scent of spices—warm, intense, and layered—coming from stalls overflowing with saffron, cardamom, cinnamon, and blends whose origins span across continents. Colors are everywhere, from richly embroidered fabrics to flowing garments in deep reds, golds, and vibrant blues, catching the light as they move gently in the breeze. As we wandered through the narrow alleys, we discovered shops displaying paintings by local artists—scenes of daily life, desert landscapes, and glimpses of tradition captured in brushstrokes. In another corner, we found one of the most unexpected sights: small animals and exotic birds, their feathers bright and iridescent, filling the space with movement and sound. It was chaotic, alive, and incredibly authentic. Time seemed to slow down as we walked without direction, letting curiosity guide us from one discovery to the next. It wasn’t just a place to visit—it was a place to get lost in, where every detail felt real, raw, and deeply connected to the culture.

3. FEEL SMALL INSIDE THE GRANDEUR OF THE GRAND MOSQUE IN ABU DHABI
There are places that impress you, and then there are places that leave you completely speechless. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is one of them. From the very first moment, its scale and beauty feel almost unreal—an architectural masterpiece that seems suspended between earth and sky.The pure white marble reflects the light in the most delicate way, changing its tone throughout the day, while golden details shimmer softly, adding warmth to its perfect symmetry. The domes rise gracefully, and the minarets reach into the sky like elegant spires, creating a sense of harmony that is both powerful and serene. Walking through its vast courtyards, barefoot on the cool marble, everything becomes quiet. The outside world fades away, replaced by a sense of calm and awe. Inside, the details are even more extraordinary—intricate decorations, immense chandeliers, and spaces so vast they make you feel incredibly small. Yet, it’s not just the grandeur that stays with you, but the atmosphere: peaceful, almost sacred, and deeply moving. It’s definitely one of the things that impressed me the most during the whole vacation, and I still remain speechless looking at the pictures I took there!

4. EXPERIENCE LUXURY IN DUBAI DOING SHOPPING AT DUBAI MALL
Stepping into Dubai Mall is not just about shopping—it’s about entering a world entirely dedicated to luxury. Here, almost every brand you see belongs to the high-end universe, and as you walk through its vast spaces, you can’t help but feel incredibly small in comparison to the scale and grandeur surrounding you. As we wandered through its endless corridors, I found myself drawn to some of my favorite brands. I stopped to try on a pair of shoes at Prada, then continued on to Louis Vuitton. Each boutique felt like its own curated world, with attention to detail that turned every visit into a small experience rather than just a quick stop. At some point, we also stepped into the Apple store, and I bought my first Apple watch there because the price was incredibly good, much lower than in Europe! One thing worth knowing: prices here are not necessarily lower than in Europe. In many cases, they are quite similar. However, if you take your time and look carefully, you can occasionally find a good deal. More than anything, what stayed with me was the feeling of being surrounded by beauty, design, and excess all at once. It’s a place where luxury isn’t just displayed—it’s amplified, creating an atmosphere that is both impressive and slightly surreal.

5. WALK IN THE ROMANTIC CANALS OF “THE PEARL” IN DOHA AT SUNSET
Our last stop in Doha brought us to one of the most unexpected and charming places of the trip: The Pearl. After a day of exploring, we didn’t plan to stay long—but sometimes, the places you spend the least time in are the ones that leave the strongest impression. Walking along the canals felt almost surreal. Soft pastel buildings lined the waterfront, their light tones reflecting gently on the calm, turquoise water. Everything seemed perfectly harmonious—the architecture, the colors, the light. Flowerbeds were everywhere, filled with bright blooms that added even more life and color to an already picturesque setting. There was a quiet, relaxed atmosphere that made you slow down without even realizing it. Couples strolling by, the soft sound of water, the warm light of the setting sun—it all felt incredibly peaceful and, in a way, almost romantic. As the sky began to change, the canals became even more beautiful, glowing softly in the golden hour light. We didn’t stay long, but as we walked away, we both felt the same thing: we should have. It was one of those places that invites you to linger just a little longer, and without a doubt, one we would come back to again.

6. FIND BEAUTY IN THE FLOWERS OF DOHA
There’s something unexpected about Doha that quietly captures your attention: its flowers. At first, you notice the skyline—sleek, modern, almost cold in its perfection. But then, as you start walking through the city, something softer begins to emerge. Color appears everywhere, breaking the rigidity of glass and steel in the most beautiful way. At every corner, there are flowerbeds—carefully designed, vibrant, and impossibly well-kept. Shades of yellow, red, white, and pink blend together in compositions that feel almost artistic, creating little pockets of warmth within the urban landscape. The contrast is what makes it so special: the structured, futuristic city paired with something so alive, delicate, and full of color. I found myself stopping constantly, drawn in by each arrangement. Every flowerbed felt different, each one worth capturing. I must have taken countless photos, unable to resist the way these bright bursts of color transformed the atmosphere of the city. They made everything feel more welcoming, more human—turning Doha into a place that is not only impressive, but also unexpectedly inviting.

7. ENJOY THE SILENCE OF THE AL FATEH MOSQUE IN MANAMA, BAHRAIN
Among all the destinations of this journey, Bahrain felt like the most unexpected. Smaller and quieter than its neighboring countries, it has a completely different rhythm—less about spectacle, more about atmosphere. There’s a sense of authenticity here that you immediately notice, where modernity exists, but never overwhelms the city’s more traditional and intimate side. As we explored Manama, what stood out most was the feeling of calm that seemed to follow us everywhere. And nowhere was that more evident than at the stunning Al Fateh Grand Mosque. From the outside, its white structure rises elegantly against the sky, both imposing and incredibly harmonious. But it’s once you step inside that the experience truly changes. The atmosphere becomes quiet, almost suspended. Light filters softly through the space, reflecting on the marble and highlighting the intricate details of the architecture. Everything feels perfectly balanced—grand yet peaceful, impressive yet welcoming. Walking through its vast interior, there’s a sense of stillness that stays with you, as if time slows down for just a moment. It’s not just a place to see, but a place to feel. And in a country that reveals itself gently, without trying too hard, this was one of the moments that left the deepest impression.

8. TAKE A RELAXING WALK ON THE ABU DHABI PROMENADE
One of the most enjoyable parts of our time in Abu Dhabi was simply slowing down and taking in the city at our own pace. We explored it using the hop-on hop-off bus, getting off at the promenade stop and deciding to continue on foot. Walking along the waterfront turned out to be one of the best decisions of the day. The promenade is incredibly wide, open, and perfectly maintained, with the sea stretching out on one side and the skyline rising on the other. The contrast is subtle but beautiful—soft sand and calm water meeting the clean lines of modern architecture in the distance. We eventually reached the Abu Dhabi Mall, where we stopped for lunch, taking a break before continuing our day. Later on, we made our way up to the Observation Deck at 300, where the perspective completely changed. Seeing the city from above gave us a new appreciation for its scale—the coastline, the skyline, and the long stretch of promenade we had just walked all unfolding beneath us. It was one of those simple experiences that ends up being unexpectedly memorable—no rush, no strict plan, just the pleasure of walking, observing, and letting the city reveal itself step by step.

9. ADMIRE DUBAI FROM BURJ KHALIFA
Seeing Dubai from the top of the Burj Khalifa is one of those experiences that almost feels mandatory. It’s iconic, instantly recognizable, and undeniably impressive. From above, the city stretches endlessly—skyscrapers, highways, and the desert fading into the horizon, all blending into a view that feels almost unreal. But getting there is part of the experience… and not always the most enjoyable one. The queues can be incredibly long—over two hours in our case—and by the time you finally reach the top, you’ve definitely earned the view. It’s crowded, a bit chaotic, and far from the peaceful, reflective moment you might imagine. And yet, once you’re up there, everything changes. The scale of Dubai becomes clear in a way you simply can’t grasp from the ground. Looking down at the city, watching the tiny cars move below and the buildings stretch out in every direction, there’s a moment where it all feels worth it. For me, this was actually the second time visiting. I decided to do it again because my husband had never experienced it—and some things are just too iconic to skip. That said, I can confidently say that twice is more than enough! Still, despite the wait and the crowds, it remains one of those must-do experiences, not to be missed during your trip in UAE.

10. DRIFT INTO SILENCE AMONG THE DESERT DUNES
One of the experiences that is almost synonymous with a trip to the UAE is a journey into the desert. It’s one of those moments that defines the destination—golden dunes stretching endlessly, soft light changing throughout the day, and a landscape that feels both vast and incredibly quiet. Unfortunately, this is one experience we didn’t manage to fit into our itinerary. Time was limited, and with so many places to explore, we had to make a few choices along the way. Still, it’s something I would absolutely recommend including in any trip to the UAE. There are so many ways to experience the desert, depending on what you’re looking for. From adventurous 4×4 rides across the dunes to more relaxed evenings spent in traditional camps, where you can enjoy dinner under the stars, surrounded by nothing but sand and silence. Each option offers a different perspective, but they all share that same sense of escape from the city. Even without having experienced it firsthand, it’s easy to understand why the desert holds such a strong appeal. It represents a completely different side of the UAE—slower, quieter, and deeply connected to nature. And for that reason alone, it remains one of those experiences that truly shouldn’t be missed.
When to go?
Winter
Spring
Summer
Autumn

The best time to visit Dubai is from December to February, to avoid the heat that can be felt for many months of the year.
During the summer, the heat is so intense that even sitting under a beach umbrella is painful. In winter, the air temperature is generally suitable for sunbathing, except on the coolest days. The best months for sun and sea are therefore March and November, although it can still be a bit chilly in the first part of March, and the sea is generally cooler in March than in November. In April, some days are acceptable, but other times temperatures can reach 40 degrees Celsius.
